The Chaos Trials are more fun with friends. This guide covers everything about multiplayer.

How to Start Co-op

Local Co-op

  1. Connect controllers
  2. Press Start on controller 2
  3. Select character
  4. Begin run

Online Co-op

  1. Open pause menu
  2. Select “Online”

Co-op Strategies

Build Synergies

  • Elemental Combos: Fire + Lightning = Overload
  • Role Splitting: One tank, one DPS
  • Relic Sharing: Trade relics between players

Communication

  • Ping System: Mark locations and enemies
  • Voice Chat: Built-in voice chat
  • Quick Messages: Pre-set communication options

Co-op Specific Content

Duo Bosses

Some bosses have co-op specific attacks:

  • Twin Guardians: Must be defeated simultaneously
  • Chaos Twins: Share health pool
  • Elemental Pair: Combine elements

Shared Resources

  • Gold Pool: Shared between players
  • Relic Trading: Exchange relics at rest areas
  • Revive System: Downed players can be revived

Best Co-op Builds

1. Fire & Ice Combo

  • Player 1: Fire build (area damage)
  • Player 2: Ice build (crowd control)
  • Strategy: Freeze enemies, then burn them

2. Tank & DPS

  • Player 1: Earth build (damage reduction)
  • Player 2: Lightning build (high damage)
  • Strategy: Tank absorbs damage, DPS kills

3. Support & Attack

  • Player 1: Wind build (mobility + buffs)
  • Player 2: Chaos build (random effects)
  • Strategy: Support keeps DPS alive

Netcode and Connection Quality

Wizard of Legend 2 uses peer-to-peer netcode with rollback for online co-op. The host player’s machine handles all enemy AI calculations, while clients receive position updates at 30Hz. This means the host should ideally be the player with the stronger PC and faster internet connection. Input delay for clients ranges from 20-60ms depending on geographic distance, which is noticeable during frame-perfect dodge timings. To minimize lag, all players should connect to the same regional server via the in-game region selector under Settings > Network. Local co-op bypasses all netcode concerns and runs at the host’s native refresh rate with zero input delay for all players.

Friendly Fire and Team Coordination

Friendly fire is enabled by default in co-op mode and applies to all arcana except healing and buff spells. Area-of-effect arcana like Meteor Storm and Chain Lightning can accidentally hit teammates for 30% of their normal damage. Experienced teams mitigate this by assigning lanes — one player handles left-side enemies while the other takes right, reducing crossfire incidents. The ping system’s tactical variant (hold Ping button for 1 second) places a semi-transparent danger zone marker that all players can see, invaluable for calling out boss telegraphs. Voice chat supports push-to-talk and open mic; we recommend push-to-talk during boss fights to keep comms clear and free of background noise.

Scaling Enemy Stats in Multiplayer

Enemy health scales by +60% per additional player in 4-player co-op, while damage scales by +25%. This means a 4-player team faces enemies with 2.8x normal health and 1.75x damage output. However, gold drops and relic drop rates also scale — +40% gold per additional player and +15% relic drop chance — making full parties significantly richer. The revive system allows downed players to be picked up within a 15-second window by any teammate standing within melee range (roughly 3 in-game meters). Revived players return with 25% HP and a brief invincibility window of 2 seconds, just enough to reposition safely to a corner or behind cover. This revive invincibility also clears all active status effects, making it situationally valuable to intentionally let a debuffed teammate go down for a clean reset.

Matchmaking and Party Management

Online matchmaking prioritizes players within 50ms ping of each other and matches Chaos Level to within one tier difference. Private lobbies bypass these restrictions and allow any Chaos Level combination — useful for carrying lower-level friends through content they haven’t unlocked yet, though the lower-level player will face enemies scaled to the host’s difficulty. Party voice chat quality degrades noticeably above 80ms ping, introducing roughly 200ms of audio delay. For cross-region play, use Discord or external voice apps as a workaround to avoid the built-in chat lag. The party leader can also set relic distribution rules: free-for-all (fastest click gets it), turn-based rotation, or vote-based allocation for Legendary drops.

Drop-in matchmaking is supported mid-run but comes with a penalty: joining a run in progress applies a 20% health reduction for the joining player that lasts until the current floor is completely cleared. This mechanic exists to prevent players from exploiting fresh health pools in the middle of boss fights. Disconnecting and reconnecting during the same floor does not reapply this penalty, so a brief disconnect during a boss fight is recoverable. The host can also toggle mid-run joining in the lobby settings, preventing randoms from dropping into ongoing runs uninvited.
